Cekada Honored for “Making a Difference”

Congratulations go out to Tracey Cekada, Department of Safety Sciences, on being named one of the 100 Women Making a Difference in the Safety, Health, and Environmental Profession in November 2011.

The distinction was received from Women in Safety Engineering, a common interest group of the American Society of Safety Engineers, as part of the ASSE’s 100th anniversary celebration.

“A good leader has to be a strong motivator,” Cekada said. “I lead by primarily trying to motivate my students to be the best they can be and to work above and beyond what is typically expected of them in the classroom.”

Cekada’s vision of her future in safety includes providing inspiration to those students she teaches so that they may aspire to be tomorrow’s safety leaders. She wants her students to strive to be strong leaders and to follow in the values and ethics that she has instilled in them. She hopes to contribute to the success of her students by teaching them today the significance of this and how it can impact them tomorrow.
