Graduate Student Campbell Recognized at Greek Life Conference

Emilie Campbell, a graduate student in the department of Student Affairs in Higher Education (SAHE), was the recipient of two awards and competed in a case study competition at the annual meeting of the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors (AFA) in St. Louis, Mo., held November 30–December 4, 2011.

Campbell received the William J. Brennan Graduate Assistant Fellowship. This award is presented to Order of Omega alumni enrolled in higher education graduate programs and employed either full or part time as a Greek Life advisor. The award recognized Campbell’s leadership in the Greek community and to the Order of Omega, her potential to contribute to the future of fraternity and sorority life, and her academic achievement as a graduate student. In her letter of recommendation, Holley Belch noted that “Emilie embraces her work with Greek students in a way that is indicative of a seasoned professional . . . the future in this field for Emilie is an open road for her to travel.”

Campbell also competed in a case study competition sponsored by the Order of the Omega. Campbell was randomly paired with another graduate student to solve a real-life fraternity/sorority scenario that challenged them to provide creative, resourceful, and theoretically sound solution before a panel of expert judges. Campbell and partner earned a second place award.

Campbell received an AFA Foundation scholarship, which provided financial assistance to attend this year’s conference.

Emilie Campbell is a second-year SAHE student and a graduate assistant in IUP’s Office of Student Leadership and Greek Life. She was inducted into the Order of Omega while attending the University of Maryland as an undergraduate student.
