Poage Returns for Seventh Field Season in Antarctic Dry Valleys

Dr. Michael Poage, Department of Geoscience, is returning for his seventh field season in Antarctica over the semester break, working with the National Science Foundation’s McMurdo Dry Valleys Long-Term Ecological Research Program.

Along with colleagues from Dartmouth College and Virginia Tech, Dr. Poage studies soil chemistry variation in the Antarctic Dry Valleys and its effects on soil ecosystems, as well as the distribution and cycling of soil phosphorus.  This field season will involve continuing research on soil phosphorus and initiation of new field projects designed to understand the impacts of climate change on soil ecosystems in the Dry Valleys.
