Hovan Presents “Bringing Real Ocean Research to Your Classroom”

Dr. Steve Hovan, Department of Geosciences, and colleagues from recent ocean drilling expeditions presented a workshop titled “Bringing Real Ocean Research to Your Classroom: Plate Tectonics, Microbiology, Geology, and So Much More!” to teachers at the Science Teachers Association of New York State annual conference held in November 2011 in Rochester, N.Y.

Although Hovan could not attend in person, he “Skyped” into the workshop presentation to serve with a panel of teachers discussing their sea-going experience aboard the drilling vessel JOIDES Resolution last fall. IUP Geoscience alumna Heather Renyck (B.S. ’99) helped facilitate the workshop, and currently teaches high school to students in New York.
