Dr. Lydia Rodríguez of the Department of Foreign Languages presented a paper entitled “La familia: Unity and Latino Identity in Loida Maritza Pérez” at the Pennsylvania Foreign Language Conference in September 2011.

“La familia: Unity and Latino Identity in Loida Maritza Pérez” examines the Latino family characteristics and behavior that contribute to their identity and their strong alllegiance as exemplified in Pérez’s novel that closely represents reality.

The presentation weaved other authors such as Esmeralda Santiago, Julia Alvarez, and Christina García.
