Dr. Eileen W. Glisan attended a two-day meeting of the STARTALK Task Force at the University of Maryland in February 2011.
STARTALK (“Start Talking”) is a presidential initiative to fund summer programs for teachers and students in critical languages including Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Persian, Turkish, Swahili, and Urdu.
The purpose of the meeting was to develop workshops for training STARTALK teachers in various aspects of language teaching, including how to develop a learner-centered classroom and how to provide comprehensible input in a foreign language.
