IUP Punxsutawney Provides Leadership at PASSHE Diversity Summit

PASSHE Annual Diversity Summit

Members of IUP Punxsutawney presented the topic “Click! Audience Response Systems and Inclusivity” at the 2011 PASSHE Annual Diversity Summit at Bloomsburg University on October 13 and 14, 2011.

The program featured an overview of clicker technology and pedagogical options for faculty instructors and workshop facilitators.

Program participants engaged in a clicker survey addressing inclusivity and diversity issues, and contrasted their results with the clicker data gathered from IUP Punxsutawney students. Clickers were used in the IUP Punxsutawney Summer Opportunity Program under Dr. Rosalee Stillwell’s instruction. The purpose was to create an active learning environment as well as to gather research data on student engagement, attitudes, and behaviors.

While new, audience response systems offer unique student access and low-threat participation opportunities in demographically diverse classrooms. The program reinforced the value of this interactive learning pedagogy: program participants received instant survey feedback, which catalyzed active group engagement and interaction.

Dr. Stillwell was joined by Nancy Evans of Information Technology; IUP Punxsutanwey students Ayesha Baker, Denzel Gay, and Shawn Rooney; senior IT intern Tabitha Bowers; and Erin Fullerman, Turning Technologies senior training specialist.
