Student Affairs in Higher Education Well-Represented at State Conference

Students, alumni, and faculty of the Student Affairs in Higher Education (SAHE) Department presented numerous educational programs, received awards, and served on the planning committee for the thirtieth annual conference of Pennsylvania College Personnel Association (PCPA) in Monroeville held October 16–18, 2011.

Dr. Linda Hall, faculty liaison to the PCPA executive board, presented “A Little Whine and Lots of Sharing about Budget Impact” and facilitated a roundtable discussion on “Making the Most of Your Professional Life.”

Dr. John Mueller and graduate student Erick Randolph (’12) presented “Losing Faith: The Atheist College Student.”

Allison Shumar (’13) copresented “Student Government Initiatives and Cultural Context: A Thirty-Year Retrospective” with Kate Linder of the IUP’s Division of Student Affairs.

Alumni of the SAHE department also presented programs, including James Amato (’07) on “Small School Strategies for Student Success,” Tom Baker (’05) on “Get Involved! PCPA,” Morgan Rizzardi (’09) and Ryan Cunningham (’09) on “Trends in the ‘Non-Trad’ World,” and Amber Sherman (’03) on “A Year of Implementing Change: How to Effectively Alter Your Welcome Weekend Program.”

At the conference luncheon, awards were presented to Morgan Rizzardi for the Outstanding New Professional and to Amber Sherman for Outstanding Contribution to PCPA.

Several alumni of the SAHE department served on the conference planning committee, including Amanda Ries (’06), Morgan Rizzardi, Jason Wagner (’03), and conference chairperson Diane Williams (’11).

PCPA, a state division of the American College Personnel Association, serves student affairs professionals and graduate students across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
