Anthropology’s Ford Discusses “The Search for Chauncey’s Fleet”

Ben Ford, Department of Anthropology, gave the keynote address at the annual conference of the Association for Great Lakes Maritime History.

The address, entitled “The Search for Chauncey’s Fleet in Lake Ontario,” described the results of Drs. Ben Ford and Katie Farnsworth’s (Geoscience) recent research in Lake Ontario.

The Association for Great Lakes Maritime History is an international organization of museums, archives, and individuals concerned with the maritime history of the Great Lakes. This year’s annual meeting was hosted by the Great Lakes Historical Society in Toledo, Ohio.

Ford and Farnsworth are currently leading an interdisciplinary team to locate War of 1812 shipwrecks in Lake Ontario and to study the geologic and sedimentary processes that influenced how these sites and the underlying lake floor formed.
