Impact Therapy Workshop Presented by Counseling Professional

A renowned figure in the counseling profession will present on Impact Therapy for the IUP Center for Counselor Training and Services (CCTS) in the Fall semester. Dr. Ed Jacobs of West Virginia University will offer a one-day workshop on “Impact Therapy: An Action-Oriented, Creative Approach to Change” on Friday, October 21, 2011, in Conference Room 11 and 12 of Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Dr. Jacobs is an associate professor in the master’s degree program of the Counseling, Counseling Psychology, and Rehabilitation Department at West Virginia University. He has published approximately thirty articles and written four books on counseling techniques, including Impact Therapy, Creative Counseling Techniques: An Illustrated Guide, Group Counseling in Correctional Settings, and Group Counseling: Strategies and Skills, which is now in the seventh edition.

He is the founder and director of Impact Therapy Associates and is a licensed professional counselor in West Virginia who has been in private practice for over twenty-five years. Each year, he presents on Impact Therapy for agencies, school districts, and organizations throughout the United States and Canada.

In 2006, he received the Innovator of the Year Award from the Association for Creativity in Counseling. He has also been recognized for his contributions in group counseling by being given the Professional Advancement Award and selected as a Fellow by the Association for Specialists in Group Work. Dr. Jacobs serves on the advisory board for the National Association for Cognitive-Behavioral Therapists.

The workshop is coordinated by CCTS, an IUP center created to develop professional workshops and training for community and school counseling professionals throughout the region. CCTS is directed by Dr. John McCarthy, professor of Counseling.
