Green Light Given to Accommodations and Adaptations for Diverse Learners at IUP

IUP has met all the requirements by the Department of Education for including accommodations and adaptation for diverse learners in inclusive settings and English language learners with all teacher preparation programs.

The Accommodations and Adaptation for Diverse Learners in Inclusive Settings and English Language Learners for initial programs for PreK-4, 4-8, Special Education PreK-8, and Special Education 7-12 Certifications has been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), Bureau of School Leadership and Teacher Quality.

In order to achieve the requirements, IUP showed that its programs included at least nine credits or 270 hours or an equivalent combination regarding accommodations and adaptations for students with disabilities in an inclusive setting that included instruction in literacy skills development and cognitive skills development. An additional three credits or 90 hours or an equivalent combination addressed the instructional needs of English language learners.

PDE commended IUP, the College of Education and Educational Technology, and the Education of Exceptional Persons program for their commitment to providing quality teacher preparation programs for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

“Congratulations to the faculty, candidates, and graduates of the Education of Exceptional Persons Master’s of Education Program on this well-deserved recognition,” said Dr. Joseph Domaracki, interim associate dean, Office of Teacher Education.
