IUP Organ Students to Perform Organ Duet

IUP organ scholarship recipients Maximillian Esmus and Randall Frye will perform a recital on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. in the Heinz Memorial Chapel.

The program will include a performance of an organ duet arranged by Esmus, a Theory and Composition major at IUP. The arrangement is based on Symphony No. 3, Movement I, called “Largo,” written by Estonian conductor and composer Eduard Tubin (1905–1982). The general public is welcome to attend. Admission is free.

In addition to the duet, the solo works to be included are written by Johann Sebastian Bach, Jan Bender, Johannes Brahms, Dietrich Buxtehude, Paul Manz, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and M. Searle Wright.

Esmus and Frye will perform on the chapel’s three manual (keyboards) organ, which is made up of 4,272 pipes (73 ranks) and three electronic pedal stops.

The Heinz Chapel is located on the campus of University of Pittsburgh.

This recital series features college-level organ students from the Western Pennsylvania region. This spring is the fifth season that IUP students have been invited to perform.
