Webb Named Division II Player of the Year

Darryl Webb, of Elkridge, Md., a senior forward on the men’s basketball team, has been named 2011 Division II Player of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

He will be honored at an NABC awards event April 3, 2011, at the Cullen Theater at Wortham Center in Houston.

Webb was also chosen by the NABC to participate in the Reese’s Division II College All-Star Game on March 25, 2011, at the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass., as part of the Elite Eight activities.

His other recent selections include

  • State Farm Coaches’ All-America in Division II (for the second time)
  • NABC All-Atlantic Region first team
  • Daktronics All-Atlantic Region first team
  • PSAC West Player of the Year
  • All-conference first team (for the third time)
  • PSAC tournament MVP
  • Atlantic Region all-tournament team

Webb powered IUP to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region championship game March 15, 2011, in which the Crimson Hawks fell to West Liberty.

He averaged a double-double this season with 17.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game, ranking in the top ten in the nation in rebounds per game. His season stats also included 47 blocked shots, 49.6-percent shooting from the field, 29 steals, and 52 assists.

He finished his career as the all-time IUP career leader in games played (126), points (1,949), rebounds (1,214), field goals made (708) and attempted (1,418), and blocked shots (162). He is second in free throws made (443) and attempted (686) and ranks fifth in steals (136). Webb had 54 career double-doubles.

In 2010, Webb helped the Crimson Hawks reach the national championship game for the first time in school history. That year, he was selected to the NABC and Division II Bulletin All-America teams, was named the MVP of the Atlantic Region tournament, and was on the Elite Eight all-tournament team.

Webb was the PSAC West Freshman of the Year and a second team all-conference selection in 2008.

Over the past three years, he has helped IUP post a record of 81-17, with back-to-back PSAC West regular season and PSAC tournament titles and consecutive trips to the NCAA Atlantic Region championship game.
