Psychology Brown Bag Discussion to Focus on Career Paths for Clinical Psychologists

Join Psychology Department faculty and graduate students for a round-table discussion of current employment trends, career options in clinical psychology, and reasons for optimism on Friday, March 25, 2011, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. in Uhler Hall, Room 116.

Dr. Laura Knight will facilitate this discussion on “Career Paths for Clinical Psychologists: What Does the Future Hold?”

Since 2002, the number of sites offering predoctoral internships in clinical psychology has risen by 13 percent, but the number of applicants has risen by 37 percent. This imbalance and the sweeping economic changes occurring across the country are presenting challenges to both clinical psychology graduate students and the faculty members who train them.

In this uncertain economy, what skills do graduate students need in order to be competitive in the internship and job market?

The news is not all bad—with great challenge, comes great opportunity! In what fields are psychologists currently in demand and where are the opportunities going to be when today’s graduate students are ready for them?
