Erwin and Hrabovsky Speak on Impact of Developmental Math Courses on Subsequent Math Performance

Meghan Erwin and Paul Hrabovsky, Department of Developmental Studies, gave a presentation at the thirty-fifth annual National Association for Developmental Education conference in Washington, D.C., February 24, 2011.

The title of their presentation was “Capitalizing Time: Arithmetic to College Algebra in Three Credits.”

Erwin and Hrabovsky presented pre/post-test results from ACT Compass Math, grades in the Developmental Math courses, and grades from upper-level math courses and compared success rates, GPA, and retention rates to similar cohorts. Their research infers that success rates within the Developmental Math courses are associated with student success and retention in upper-level math courses.
