Spring Break Closing Notice, March 2011

All university residential facilities will be closed and locked with I-Card access systems deactivated from 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, until noon on Sunday, March 13, 2011.

Students are not permitted in the residence halls during the break period.

Note: McCarthy Hall, University Towers, and Wallwork Hall will be available only for students who have applied for and who meet specific criteria for break housing.

Residence Hall Closing

  • All resident students must vacate their room by no later than 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5.
  • All residence halls will be closed and I-Card systems deactivated during the break. Students are asked to leave for break as early as possible following their last class.
  • The following procedures must be completed by all residents before leaving. Rooms will be checked by the residence hall staff to ensure that these steps have been completed. The university assumes no responsibility for any consequences of failure to carry out these procedures.
    • Remove all perishable food.
    • Completely empty all trash cans.
    • Leave heat valves open (Whitmyre/McCarthy/Elkin) and/or make sure your heat is left on.
    • Close drapes/pull window shades halfway
    • Close and securely latch windows, turn lights out, and lock door.
    • Shut off all electrical appliances/items (except refrigerators) and ensure that no outlets are overloaded.
    • Note: As an added precaution, it is recommended that all electrical appliances/items are disconnected from the wall outlets during the break period.

Food service is not available during the break

The dining hall schedule is as follows:

  • Foster
    • Last meal served Noon on Saturday, March 5
    • First meal served Noon on Sunday, March 13
  • Folger
    • Last meal served 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 4
    • First meal served 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 13
  • HUB Rock Café
    • Last meal served 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4
    • First meal served 7:00 a.m. on Monday, March 14
  • Oak Room
    • Last meal served 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 4
    • First meal served 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 14
  • Java City Library
    • Last meal served 2:00 p.m. on Friday March 4
    • First meal served 8:00 a.m. on Monday, March 14
  • Java City Foster
    • Last meal served 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4
    • First meal served 7:00 a.m. on Monday, March 14
  • P.O.D.
    • Closing 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4
    • Opening 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 13
  • Eberly Café
    • Last meal served 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 3
    • First meal served 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 14

Important Information

The university cannot be responsible for theft or damage to any items left in student rooms during the break period. Students are urged to make special provisions for the security of valuable items. As a reminder, it is advisable for all residents to have personal property insurance.

Residents are advised that any necessary maintenance and/or custodial services will continue to be performed during the break period.

All residential buildings will re-open at noon on Sunday, March 13. I-Card access systems will be reactivated at that time.

The deadline to apply for break housing is Friday, February 25, 2011. For information regarding break housing, please contact the Office of Housing and Residence Life at 357-2696.
