Workshop: “Revisiting Your Writing Assignments”

Loading...

The Center for Teaching Excellence invites all faculty members to attend “Revisiting Your Writing Assignments” on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. in Ackerman 111.

Dr. Ben Rafoth, professor of English, University Professor, and director of the Writing Center, along with Ms. Lindsay Sabatino, Ph.D. candidate in the Composition and TESOL doctoral program, will give a presentation on effective writing assignments, followed by discussion and sharing of examples.

From time to time, most teachers adjust their writing assignments in response to the quality of work they receive from their students. Effective revisions to assignments should lead students to produce better work, but what is the best way to revise assignments? How much structure, guidance, and advice is necessary for students? Is there a point at which an assignment becomes top heavy with information? Is a grading rubric necessary, and how does the rubric connect to the assignment? What does a good writing assignment look like?

Those attending are asked to bring one or two writing assignments that they give to their students. Examples of rubrics and student papers are also welcome.

Reservations are not needed.

Refreshments will be provided!
