Nearly eighty students from the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology attended a networking event on Thursday, October 21, 2010, at the Bank of New York Mellon Center in Pittsburgh.
The event was open to all Indiana University of Pennsylvania students through the Career Development Center. The students interacted with forty full-time BNY Mellon employees who are also IUP alumni. They also listened to presentations by event hostess Barb Speidel, a managing director at the bank, and IUP Interim President David J. Werner and participated in a question-and-answer session led by Speidel.
“We learned more about how to apply for internships and jobs,” said Erin Puko, a junior Accounting and Management major. “I also gained practice communicating with people other than my peers.”
Speidel, who has been working for BNY Mellon’s Internal Audit function for fourteen years, indicated that BNY Mellon is hiring in the Pittsburgh area and described some entry-level jobs available, said event coordinator Erin Lockhart, a senior Human Resource Management major.
The corporation has identified Pittsburgh as its “North American growth center” since the completion of the merger between the Bank of New York and Mellon Financial in 2007, according to a 2009 report published by the corporation, and is recruiting employees from area colleges and universities.
