Daniel Perlongo, of the IUP Music Department, attended the premiere of his Symphony No. 1, “Millennium Voyage” at the UNICUM Music Festival in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The Slovenian section of the International Society for Contemporary Music and Radio Television Slovenia presented the work on a live online broadcast of the Symphony Orchestra of RTV Slovenia, conducted by En Shao, at noon on October 1, 2010, coinciding with International Music Day.
The symphony has five movements: 1) Harbor Entrance, 2) Island Walk, 3) Sunny Diversion, 4) Hidden Jewel, and 5) Wind Play.
On Monday, October 4, Mr. Perlongo attended the premiere of his work commissioned by and written for Ensemble MD7 of Ljubljana. The work, “Settimana Ljubljana (week in Ljubljana), Ljubljana Vignettes,” has seven parts: 1) Through the Julian Alps, 2) Kanal Concert, 3) Tartini al Piran, 4) Ljubljana Grad – Castle Hill, 5) Ljubljanica Promenade – River Walk, 6) Pletna Ride, and 7) Church Bell on Lake Bled.
Mr. Perlongo’s newest work, “Only Apricots Fall in the Autumn Wind; Five Songs On Korean Zen Poems,” is to be premiered in Gorell Hall (second floor of John Sutton Hall) on the IUP campus on Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at 8:00 p.m., by IUP faculty members Dr. Sarah Mantel, mezzo soprano, accompanied by Dr. Susan Wheatley, piano.
