Music Alumnus Presents Lecture-Recital to IUP Percussion Students

On Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at 2:00 p.m., alumnus Christopher Davis will present a lecture-recital for Music students. The presentation on Experimental Music will be held in the Percussion Rehearsal Room of Cogswell Hall, Room 117. He will discuss and perform selected pieces by composers such as John Cage, Morton Feldman, Henry Cowell, and others.

Christopher A. Davis teaches applied percussion at North Greenville University, where he also directs the NGU Percussion Ensemble and the NGU Marching Crusaders. He received his Master of Fine Arts degree in Percussion Performance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Performance from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, and he is currently working on a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of South Carolina. His teachers have included Eric Paton, Jim Ed Cobbs, Robert Breithaupt, Gary Olmstead, Michael Kingan, and Scott Herring.

Davis has performed with numerous orchestras including the Westerville Symphony Orchestra, the Central Ohio Symphony, the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, the Greater Anderson Musical Arts Consortium (GAMAC), the Spartanburg Philharmonic, the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra, and the Greenville Symphony Orchestra. He has also had the honor of performing at conferences for the Ohio Music Educators Association (OMEA) and the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA), and has performed at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) as a member of the Capital University Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band, the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps, and the IUP Percussion Ensemble.

In addition to his responsibilities at North Greenville University, Davis also teaches private percussion lessons to all ages, performs as a freelance musician, and presents master classes for schools around the South Carolina Upstate. Davis is an Innovative Percussion Educational Artist.
