Women’s Studies Minor Celebrates Twenty Years at IUP

The Women’s Studies Program, along with the President’s Commission on the Status of Women and the Women’s Consortium, is celebrating twenty years having a Women’s Studies minor in the curriculum.

All faculty and staff members, administrators, and students are invited to a reception in Breezedale Alumni Center on September 23, 2010, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.

Women’s Studies began as a program in the 1986–1987 academic year, when Dr. Maureen McHugh was appointed as the first director and began sponsoring speakers, conferences, exhibits, and colloquia on issues of gender equity.

The academic minor in Women’s Studies officially began twenty years ago in Fall 1990, with interdisciplinary course offerings that examine the dynamics of gender in a variety of fields and prepare students for careers in which awareness of and sensitivity to gender issues are especially important.
