Inaugural Transit of STEMSEAS Arrives in Honolulu

STEMSEAS (STEM Student Experiences Aboard Ships) is an NSF-Funded pilot project aimed at improving retention, enhancing outcomes, and increasing diversity and overall numbers in geoscience fields by providing undergraduate students transformative experiences at sea.

Applications to Go to Sea with STEMSEAS Now Being Accepted

Undergraduate students will be taken on three different short transits aboard state-of-the-art research ships this summer with the project STEM Student Experiences Aboard Ships. Students interested in STEM fields but unsure which field are strongly encouraged to apply.

Next Generation Field Geology Fund Established by Geoscience Department Donors

Through generous contributions from alumni and friends of the Geoscience Department, a new Foundation for IUP account was established to directly support student field-based learning activities: the Next Generation Field Geology Fund.

B.S.Ed. in Earth and Space Science Receives NSTA and NCATE Accreditation

For the second time in four years, IUP’s Earth and Space Science Education program has been reviewed and found to meet the exacting standards required for accreditation by the National Science Teachers Association.

Earth and Space Science Education Receives Accreditation

The Earth and Space Science Education program, along with all of the other science education programs, received "Full National Recognition" from the National Science Teacher Association.

Free Planetarium Show About Upcoming Total Lunar Eclipse

On Febraury 19, 2010, Dr. Ken Coles of the Department of Geoscience will present an informational free planetarium show about the total lunar eclipse that will occur on February 20.
