Inaugural Transit of STEMSEAS Arrives in Honolulu

STEMSEAS (STEM Student Experiences Aboard Ships) is an NSF-Funded pilot project aimed at improving retention, enhancing outcomes, and increasing diversity and overall numbers in geoscience fields by providing undergraduate students transformative experiences at sea.

Geoscience’s Lewis Gives Invited Talk at Japan Geosciences Union Meeting

On May 24, 2016, Jon Lewis presented his talk titled “The influence of upper plate tectonic inheritance in the southern Taiwan arc-continent collision” in a session focusing on the geodynamic evolution of northeast Asia and the western Pacific at the Japan Geosciences Union Meeting in Tokyo.

Students Gear Up for 42nd Annual Geoscience Day

The 42nd annual Geoscience Day will be April 29, 2016. Nineteen senior Geoscience students will present their independent research during the Geoscience Day Symposium. This will be followed by a talk by alumnus John Taylor (’75).

IUP Geoscientists Present Research at AGU Meeting

Geoscience faculty Jon Lewis and Greg Mount, along with two undergraduate students, presented research at the 2015 meeting of the American Geophysical Union in San Francisco. They presented work ranging from the large scale tectonics of Canada, Taiwan, and Japan to small scale porosity measurements in limestone aquifers.

Hovan Presents on Climate Research in South Korea

Geoscience professor Steve Hovan was invited in January 2016 to present climate research findings to colleagues from the Korean Institute of Ocean Science and Technology and the Korean Polar Research Institute.

Warnock Discusses Baltic Sea Paleoenvironment Research Findings

Jonathan Warnock, Geoscience, returned from gathering with scientists from around the globe who participated in the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program Expedition 347: Baltic Sea Paleoenvironments. The group met in Stockholm, Sweden, to discuss their initial findings and plan out future research collaborations.
