“The Merry Widow” Opens at IUP December 3

Music Theater at Indiana University of Pennsylvania will open its presentation of the light-hearted musical The Merry Widow on Thursday, December 3, 2009. Performances will run December 3–5 at 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday, December 6, at 2:00 p.m. on the Waller Hall Mainstage, IUP Performing Arts Center.

Stamp to Conduct Music Workshops in UK

Dr. Jack Stamp, 2008–2009 University Professor and chair of the IUP Department of Music, was recently invited to present conducting workshops at Great Britain’s Royal Military School of Music. He will present sessions for their student bandmasters and many of the conductors in the field starting November 20, 2009.

Music Alumnus Wengert On Tour with Olympic Torch

Chris Wengert, of “drumset and bucket” fame, is on tour with a Coca-Cola-sponsored musical group with the Olympic Torch as it makes its way all over Canada in preparation for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Jennings to Perform with Arcadia Piano Trio in Oklahoma

IUP Music Department faculty member Dr. Linda Jennings will perform with the Arcadia Piano Trio on September 8, 2009, at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmund, Okla.

Croatian Exchange Students Study in Music Department

As part of the IUP College of Fine Arts International Exchange Program, Nela Saric, a vocal performance major, and Antonia Mimica, majoring in Music Theory, have come from the Music Academy in Zagreb, Croatia, to study at IUP in the Music Department in Fall 2009.

Music Professor Collins Featured on New CD Release

Zach Collins, an assistant professor of tuba and euphonium in the Department of Music at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, is featured on a new compact disk release by Southwest Chamber Music. The three-disk set catalogs all of composer William Kraft’s “Encounters.”

Keystone Wind Ensemble Performs at International Conference

The Keystone Wind Ensemble, directed by Dr. Jack Stamp of the Music Department, recently performed at the annual conference of the International Trumpet Guild in Harrisburg.
