IUP will be in the national spotlight Thursday, September 15, 2011, when the CBS Sports Network televises the home football game, but, before that, ten alumni will be inducted into the IUP Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, September 10.

IUP’s Robbie Zinsmeister has been named the Futures Collegiate Baseball League Most Valuable Player, as it was announced Wednesday by the league.

The women’s tennis team lost to Armstrong Atlantic in the round of sixteen in its first appearance at the NCAA Division II championship on May 11. But, the team’s Kelly McBryan came away with the NCAA’s Elite 88 academic-athletic award.

Joe Rocco of the men’s basketball team and Emily Pany of the women’s volleyball team were selected as IUP Scholar-Athletes of the Year for 2011–2012.

Former IUP baseball shortstop Paul Bingham was called up July 17, 2010, to the Eugene Emeralds of the Class A Northwest League. Before the promotion, he played twenty games for the Arizona Rookie League Padres in Peoria, Ariz.
