Visiting Lecturer to Speak on Mathematical Problems and Random Walks

Fern Hunt, a research mathematician at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, will present two talks at IUP on February 23, 2016. The talks are sponsored by the S-COAM Program and the Mathematics Department and are intended for students at all levels.

Russ Stocker will give participants a hands-on introduction to R, on open source software environment for statistical computing and graphics, on September 22 and September 24.

Dorsett to Present Wolfram Technology Seminar on Mathematica and Wolfram Alpha

Andy Dorsett from Wolfram Technologies, makers of Mathematica, will present “Mathematica and Wolfram Alpha in Education and Research” on Tuesday, September 15.

Flowers to Present “Integer Partitions: They Do Grow on Trees”

Tim Flowers will give a talk on Thursday, September 10, to discuss the solution to an ancient problem that has captured the imagination of mathematicians. Part of the Science Inspires Series sponsored by the College of Natural Science and Mathematics, the talk will be followed by a reception at The Artists Hand Gallery.

Alumnus Yagle to Discuss Data Mining in Aerodynamics

Jeremy Yagle, MS ’14, a data analyst at the NASA Langley Research Center, will present “Temporal Pattern Mining for the Prediction of Flutter from Aeroelasticity Data” to the Mathematics Department and university community on October 12.
