Department of Music Celebrates Jack Stamp

After 25 years as IUP’s director of Bands, Jack Stamp has announced his retirement effective the end of the spring 2015 semester. A final gala concert weekend is planned for April 24, 25, and 26. Alumni and friends are invited to join the IUP Department of Music in celebrating the career of Dr. Stamp.

Award-Winning Broadway Musical is Ovations! Season Finale

The Lively Arts at IUP will present Broadway’s award-winning “Memphis, the Musical.” Featuring the traveling tour direct from Broadway, the show will be presented on Monday, May 4, at 8:00 p.m. in Fisher Auditorium of IUP’s Performing Arts Center.

Annual Homecoming Concert Features World-Renowned Percussion Soloist

The IUP Bands’ annual Homecoming concert will feature Mark Ford, coordinator of percussion activities at the University of North Texas, in one of his own compositions, “Stubernick Fantasy,” with the IUP Wind Ensemble.

IUP Student Selected to American Choral Directors Association Conducting Finals

Music Education student Tate Dewalt is one of five undergraduate conductors from Pennsylvania selected to compete in the American Choral Directors Association – Pennsylvania annual conducting competition.

Beeken Conducts Southern Invitational Choral Conference

Ryan Beeken, director of Choral Studies, served as the guest conductor for the Southern Inivitational Choral Conference hosted by the University of Southern Mississippi on September 22–25, 2013.

IUP Cello Festival 2013, Featuring Internationally Acclaimed Guest Cellist Matt Turner

The IUP Music Department String Area will host its first IUP Cello Festival, a day-long workshop highlighting guest Matt Turner. Cellists of all age and ability levels are encouraged to attend the festival and explore the many facets of cello playing.

Stamp was Guest Clinician at Two Midwest Universities JS Clinic

Jack Stamp, IUP’s Music Department chair and director of Band Studies, appeared as a guest clinician this summer at the University of South Dakota and the University of Minnesota.

IUP String Project Open House Kicks Off Semester

The IUP String Project will host its opening event of the year on Saturday, September 14, from 11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. in Cogswell Hall. The Open House is for new and returning students.

Music Department Announces Alumni Jazz Reunion for Fall 2013

The Alumni Jazz Weekend takes place November 8–10 and includes a reception at Breezedale Alumni Center, rehearsals on Saturday, an evening performance presented by the IUP Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble, and a performance on Sunday afternoon.
