Common Freshman Reader Author Ehrenreich to Lecture

Barbara Ehrenreich, author of this year’s Common Freshman Reader selection, Nickel and Dimed, will lecture Monday, October 18, 2010, at 6:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center’s Fisher Auditorium as part of the Six O’Clock Series.

Nursing, Honor Society to Host Retired General Hengeveld as Speaker

Retired Brigadier General Peggy J. Hengeveld will speak on “Health Care Issues of Soldiers Returning from Afghanistan and Iraq” on October 20, 2010, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the HUB Ohio Room.

Lecture Series to Accompany Pittsburgh Artists’ Museum Exhibit

A series of free lectures will be presented in conjunction with the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh exhibit at the University Museum to help connect viewers with the artists’ work. Lectures begin October 7, 2010.

Author Sarkees to Sign Copies of Women’s Rugby Club Book

Joey Lynn Guarneri Sarkees, author of Earth Angels, a book about IUP’s 2003 Women’s Rugby Club, will sign copies of her book October 9, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the IUP Co-op Store.

Enrollment Records Broken for Second Straight Year

For the second consecutive year, IUP has broken all previous total student enrollment records with a Fall 2010 enrollment of 15,126.

Kuehn Looks to Essay Contest to Support India Music Program

Music professor John Kuehn is participating in a SmartMusic essay contest in which his winnings would support a beginning band program in Kollam, Kerala, India, in 2012. The public is invited to vote online.

Residence Hall to Be Named for Stephenson

The naming of the Crimson Suites, the final building of the Residential Revival student housing project, as Andrew W. Stephenson Hall was approved Friday, September 17, 2010, by the Council of Trustees.

Apollo 13 Commander Lovell to Speak at IUP

Captain James Lovell, Jr., commander of the 1970 Apollo 13 space mission, will be the speaker at the third annual First Commonwealth Endowed Lecture on November 1, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. in Fisher Auditorium.

Six O’Clock Series Kicks Off Fall 2010 Season

IUP will launch its Fall 2010 Six O’Clock Series with a presentation celebrating Constitution Day. “Just What Did They Originally Intend?” will take place Monday, September 13, at 6:00 p.m. in the Hadley Union Building’s Ohio Room.
