Beverly Chiarulli, Scott Moore, Ben Ford, Sarah Neusius, and Phillip Neusius have been awarded funding from the National Science Foundation for the “Acquisition of Instruments for 3D Digital Mapping of Historic Structures and Archaeological Sites.”

Ben Ford, Department of Anthropology, and graduate student Adam Burke participated in an excavation at the Page-Ladson Site in Florida. The site, located in the Aucilla River, is among the earliest archaeological sites in North America and contains such oddities as preserved mammoth feces.

Archaeologist Virginia Gerald and her husband, Downey Raibourn, both retired professors of Anthropology, returned to IUP on August 2, 2012, with archaeological collections that Gerald has been studying since her retirement in 1985. These collections will be curated by the Department of Anthropology.
