The Heinz Endowments of Pittsburgh awarded IUP a grant of $150,000 for the Promise Plus initiative, bringing its total donations to $460,000 for the program.

The next Picnic in the Grove will be held Wednesday, June 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., weather permitting. Music will be classic rock, and the special guest will be the Student Affairs Division.

IUP will host a program June 20–24 for children who have completed fifth or sixth grade titled “Why Aren’t Manhole Covers Square?” It is part of C-MITES, the Carnegie Mellon Institute for Talented Elementary and Secondary Students.

Andrew Longacre, a Safety Sciences and Political Science major with a minor in Environmental Health Science, was appointed May 31, 2011, as the student member of the Council of Trustees. He will serve until his graduation in 2013.
