Energy Team to Test Water near Marcellus Drilling Site in Westmoreland County

A team of faculty members has been awarded a contract to conduct water sampling around the 1,300-acre Beaver Run Reservoir and plans to place test results on a website available to the public.

Picnics in the Grove 2011 to Start June 1

IUP will present its weekly picnics in the Oak Grove on Wednesdays from June 1 through August 3. For the first picnic, contemporary music will be played and special guest will be St. Thomas More University Parish.

Seventh-Inning Rallies Push IUP Softball Past Bloomsburg and into College World Series

The softball team will make its first appearance at the College World Series, May 26–30, 2011, in Salem, Va., after defeating Bloomsburg, 2-1, in game two of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Super Regional, Saturday, May 21.

IUP Named to National Community Service Honor Roll for Third Straight Year

Based in part on the scope and innovation of its service projects and the percentage of student participation in service activities, IUP was named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for the third year.

Heritage Garden Dedicated; Garden Club’s Work Recognized

IUP and the Foundation for IUP formally dedicated the Heritage Garden on May 17, 2011, in front of the Northern Suites. It replaces the Touch and Smell Garden, which was removed during construction of the residence hall.

Women’s Conference to Feature Workshops, Antkowiak as Keynote Speaker

The President’s Commission on the Status of Women will present its annual conference May 25 at the Kovalchick Complex, featuring KDKA-TV’s Jennifer Antkowiak as keynote speaker. Registration deadline is Friday, May 13.

Commencement will be held May 7, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. in the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex. Eligible to attend the May ceremony are 2,124 students.
