Biology professor Jeff Larkin took four students to participate in a volunteer project to plant 15,000 trees and shrubs at the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pa., on April 21.

Students can earn 4 credits per course and make progress in their upper-level biology classes by taking field biology courses at Pymatuning Laboratory of Ecology.

There will be an information session on the planned 2013 IUP summer travel course in southern Africa on Thursday, May 3, 2012. All are invited to attend.

Numerous students and faculty gave presentations of their work, and a number of them received research awards or recognition.

Jeff Larkin, Department of Biology, received external funding award in the amount of $133,800 from the American Bird Conservancy/National Fish and Wildlife Foundation for his project, "Developing quality Early Successional Habitat for Golden-winged Warbler and American Woodcock".

Jeff Larkin and Marja Bakermans, Department of Biology, received a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Natural Resources Conservation Service for their project, “Monitoring and Evaluating Golden-Winged Warbler Response to Breeding Habitat Management Associated With the NRCS Golden-Winged Warbler Initiative.”

Jeffery Larkin, Department of Biology, was invited to be a speaker at Pennsylvania State University’s Goddard Forum, Oil and Gas Development Impacts on Forested Ecosystems: Research and Management Challenges.

As part of the ongoing National Science Foundation-funded renovation of Weyandt Hall research spaces, new HVAC equipment recently was installed on the roof of Weyandt Hall.
