Botelho Named University Professor for 2011–2012

Dr. Lynn Botelho, a professor in the Department of History, has been selected as IUP’s 2011–2012 University Professor. This award is presented to an IUP faculty member who demonstrates an outstanding record of teaching, research, and scholarly activity and service.

Spaghetti Dinner to Benefit Memorial Scholarships

The Veterans Organization student group will sponsor a spaghetti dinner from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. April 30, 2011, at Indiana VFW Post 1989 to raise money for scholarships honoring three students who were killed in action in Iraq.

The Department of Food and Nutrition will sponsor the annual “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” food drive April 30, 2011, with several collection sites around Indiana County.

Cardboard-Village Event Raises Funds, Builds Awareness of Homelessness

IUP’s National Residence Hall Honorary raised $339 for the Indiana County Community Action Program through its first “cardboard village” April 19, 2011, in the Oak Grove.

Student Group to Recycle Old Electronics

The Association for Management Information Systems will host an “e-cycling” event to recycle old electronics April 30, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology parking lot.

Record Number of Applicants Closes Freshman Application Process for Fall 2011

Because of a record number of applicants for the Fall freshman class, IUP is no longer accepting applications for general admission for freshman students for the Indiana and Punxsutawney campuses.

Paul Arpaia, History Department, will serve on the steering committee of September Eleventh Families for Peaceful Tomorrows, a peace organization founded by family members of those killed in the September 11, 2001, attacks.

Blood Wins Top Award in Sewing Association’s Design Challenge

Janet Blood, assistant professor of fashion merchandising, won top prize, Best Overall, in the 2010 Association of Sewing and Design Professionals “Suit Your Style” design challenge.

The Management Services Group will begin its twentieth anniversary celebration by hosting the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce Business after Hours event April 26, 2011, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Kovalchick Complex.

Memorial Scholarship Established for Pittsburgh Police Officer Stephen Mayhle

IUP marked the establishment of a memorial scholarship in honor of Stephen J. Mayhle, a 2002 Criminology graduate, April 6, 2011. Mayhle was one of three Pittsburgh police officers killed while responding to a disturbance in 2009.

The Eberly College of Business and Information Technology has maintained its business accreditation by AACSB International following an AACSB review, required every five years.

Safety Sciences Project Receives Alcoa Grant

IUP has received $99,000 from the Alcoa Foundation for research designed to help reduce human error in the workplace. Safety Sciences professor Jan Wachter will direct the research project.

Nursing Department Partners for Seventh Annual Health Fair, Walk

IUP departments are working with St. Thomas More University Parish for the annual spring walk and health fair April 9, 2011. Included are a health fair at the parish, a walk on the IUP track, and a bike ride on the Hoodlebug Trail.
