Freedom and the Shadow of Slavery: Philosophy Colloquium

The Philosophy Department announces a talk entitled “Freedom and the Shadow of Slavery: Autonomy, Recognition, and Social Dislocation.” The talk will be held on April 16, 2010, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Eberly Boardroom.

Pedersen Publishes on Heidegger and Aristotle

An article by Dr. Hans Pedersen, of the Department of Philosophy, titled “On Heidegger’s Appropriation of Aristotle’s Concept of Phrōnesis: Where and How Does Phrōnesis Show Up in Being and Time?” was accepted for publication in The New Yearbook for Phenomenology and Phenomenological Research.

Rives Publishes on Concepts and Perception

An article by Dr. Brad Rives, of the Department of Philosophy, “Concepts and Perceptual Belief: How (Not) to Defend Recognitional Concepts” was accepted for publication in Acta Analytica.

Howard Z. Fitzgerald Philosophy Essay Contest for 2010

All IUP Philosophy majors and minors are invited to submit a paper on any philosophical topic for the 2010 Howard Z. Fitzgerald Philosophy Essay Contest. Submission deadline is noon on Wednesday, April 14, 2010.
