Ten graduate students working with Dr. Jeff Larkin from the Department of Biology presented their research at the 2009 Meeting of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Wildlife Society in State College on March 28. Dylan Schneider was named Best Student Paper and Lindsey Heffernan, and Hance Ellington each were named runners-up for Best Student Paper.

Dr. Jeff Larkin was recently awarded a $60,000 grant to continue his research on “Golden-winged Warbler Response to Habitat Manipulation in Pennsylvania.”

Two M.S. in Biology graduate students and eight Biology Honors Program undergraduate students received research awards from the IUP School of Graduate Studies and Research.

Dr. Holly Travis, a faculty member in the Biology department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, was named 2008 Educator of the Year at the annual meeting of the Armstrong Conservation District on March 13, 2009. Travis was recognized for her work in several environmental education activities in the area.
