Grace Kelly Set for Jazz Concert as Season Finale

For its finale to this season’s Ovations! series, the Lively Arts at Indiana University of Pennsylvania will feature renowned musician, singer, and songwriter Grace Kelly on Thursday, April 24.

Percussion Ensemble Takes on Fisher

For the first time in over a decade, the IUP Percussion Ensemble will present its Spring Concert in Fisher Auditorium, moving from its normal venue of Gorell Recital Hall. This free concert is on Tuesday, April 22.

“Pipe Dreams” Combines Orchestra and Organ

The IUP Music Department will conclude the 2013–2014 performance season with a unique concert titled “Pipe Dreams,” featuring the IUP Symphony Orchestra and organist Christine Clewell, on Sunday, May 4.

Guest Artists from Puebla Mexico to Perform with IUP Music Faculty and Students

Visiting cellist Juan Hermida and pianist Misa Ito will present an evening of chamber music—including performances with IUP Music Department faculty members Mary Hastings, Linda Jennings, and Stanley Chepaitis and the IUP Cello Choir—on Tuesday, April 15, in Gorell Hall.

Music Department to Receive Pipe Organ from American Guild of Organists

The Department of Music will add a notable instrument this spring to its already vast keyboard collection. In May 2014, the department will make way amid its 93 Steinway pianos for the Pogorzelski-Yankee Memorial Organ, valued at $400,000.

IUP to Host National Association of Teachers of Singing Conference

The IUP Department of Music will serve as host for the 2009 National Association of Teachers of Singing Eastern Region Conference on April 2–4. The Eastern Region is composed of schools from Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, West Virginia, Delaware, and the province of Quebec.

Mantel Invited as Guest Clinician in Colorado

Dr. Sarah Mantel, director of Music Theater in the IUP Music Department, was an invited clinician at the Music Department of the University of Colorado at Denver during the IUP Spring Break week.

Powlison Places Third in National Trumpet Competition

John Powlison, a junior Music Education major in the Department of Music, placed third in the undergraduate solo division of the National Trumpet Competition.

IUP to Host PMEA District 3 Elementary/Middle School Bandfest

On Friday, March 13, 250 sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade band students from approximately fifty area schools will come to Fisher Auditorium for a day of music making culminating with an evening concert at 7:00 p.m.

Scandrett to Present at T^3 Regional Conference

Dr. Jack Scandrett, associate professor of Music at IUP, will present the results of his collaboration with students at Richland High School in Johnstown at the T^3 Conference at IUP on Saturday, March 7.

Collins Performs in Ohio and West Virginia

Dr. Zach Collins, assistant professor of Tuba in the IUP Department of Music, performed as a guest artist at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, and Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va.
