IUP to Host Maestro Honeck for Q/A Session

The Lively Arts and IUP Music Department will host Manfred Honeck, world-renowned music director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, in a “Meet the Composer” interview and Q/A session on Saturday, February 21. Geared towards area high school students and IUP music students and faculty, the interview will be conducted by University Professor and Director of Bands Jack Stamp.

Pittsburgh Symphony Concert Includes Popular and New Works

After a February appearance was cancelled due to weather, the PSO is re-set to perform as part of this year’s Ovations! series. The concert, under the baton of Maestro Manfred Honeck, will now be presented at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2015, in Fisher Auditorium of IUP’s Performing Arts Center.

Co-production Offers Up Musical Tales

Theater-by-the-Grove and Music Theater at IUP will present the fantasy-filled musical “Into the Woods” April 16–19, 2015, in Fisher Auditorium of IUP’s Performing Arts Center.

Trombone, Euphonium, and Tuba Studios to Attend PASSHE Conference

Dr. Christian Dickinson and Dr. Zach Collins, IUP Music Department faculty members, and members of the trombone, euphonium, and tuba studios will attend the inaugural Western PASSHE Low Brass Consortium on February 25–27 in Edinboro, Pa.

Scandrett to Present at Technology Institute for Music Educators (TI:ME) Conference

Dr. Jack Scandrett of the IUP Department of Music will present the results of a project using videoconferencing to coach a student brass quintet at the TI:ME National Conference in conjunction with the New Jersey Music Educators Conference, February 18–20, 2010.

Music Department Welcomes Haitian Cellist Fanord as Visiting Scholar

Ms. Fabienne Fanord, a survivor of the January 12 earthquake in Haiti, arrived in Indiana on February 8 to pursue her professional development during the 2010 Spring semester. She will perform in the IUP String Ensemble Concert on March 30, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. in Gorell Hall on the IUP campus.

Chepaitis to Premiere Composition in Buffalo

On February 12, 2010, Dr. Stanley Chepaitis will premiere the orchestral version of his composition “Paganini in the Vernacular” with the Orchard Park Symphony in Buffalo, N.Y. He will also perform his composition “Eveningstar” for violin and orchestra as well as his arrangement of Joe Venuti’s “Wildcat.”

IUP Music professors James Staples, Christian Dickinson, and Zach Collins will perform a guest recital at the University of Buffalo on February 15, 2010.

Zagreb, Professor of Voice, Visits Music Department

In a continuation of faculty exchanges and collaborations with the highly acclaimed Music Academy of Zagreb, Croatia, Cynthia Hansell-Bakić, professor of voice, will present a master class, which will be open to the public, February 18, 2010.

IUP TrumpetFest 2010

TrumpetFest 2010 is scheduled for February 4–7 and will feature performances by IUP trumpet students and faculty members, along with a lecture/performance by guest artist Dr. Langston Fitzgerald, III.

Eisensmith Performs at West Chester Trumpet Conference

Dr. Kevin Eisensmith, professor of trumpet at IUP, appeared as one of the guest artists for the fourth annual International Trumpet Festival and Brass Fest, held at West Chester University on January 30–31, 2010.

IUP Music Department faculty member Dr. Stephanie Caulder has been invited to conduct the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 4 Band in Huntingdon on February 11, 12, and 13, 2010.

Collins and Student Publish Tuba and Euphonium Compositions

Dr. Zach Collins, assistant professor of Tuba and Euphonium in the IUP Music Department, and Anthony O’Toole, senior Theory and Composition student at IUP, have recently published works for tuba and euphonium through Cimarron Music Press.
