Tepper Not to Return as Head Football Coach in 2011

IUP announced December 17, 2010, that head football coach Lou Tepper will not return for the 2011 season.

Long-Range Campus Plan Approved; New Classroom Buildings Planned

The Council of Trustees approved on December 16, 2010, the total concept of a twenty-year, long-range facilities master plan for the university that includes two new classroom buildings.

Alumnus Serafini Makes Million-Dollar Gift for Eberly College of Business

Terry Serafini, of Pittsburgh, a 1961 graduate of IUP, has donated $1 million to the university to renovate the atrium of the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology and establish a scholarship.

These students have been recognized as Provost Scholars for the 2010–2011 academic year based on semester hours earned and cumulative grade-point average.

Commencement Ceremonies to Feature Auditor General Wagner, Professor Rafoth as Keynote Speakers

Commencement ceremonies will take place Sunday, December 19, 2010, with Jack Wagner, Pennsylvania auditor general, and English professor Ben Rafoth as the keynote speakers for the graduate and undergraduate ceremonies, respectively.

Kuehn Wins National Essay Contest; Prize to Aid India Band Project

Dr. John Kuehn, a faculty member in the Department of Music, recently won the SmartMusic music education essay contest. He will receive a prize of $2,000, which he will use to help establish a music program in India.

Van Dyke, Alumna Tait Receive National Honors in Dance Teaching

Joan Van Dyke, a faculty member in the Department of Theater and Dance, was named the 2010 University Dance Teacher of the Year by the Pennsylvania State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. Alumna Ashley Tait, of Schnecksville received honors for teaching dance at the secondary education level.

KidsRead Program Pairs Schoolchildren with IUP Student Tutors

IUP students are helping community children with reading skills through the KidsRead literacy program, which serves more than one hundred elementary school students from the Indiana area.

IUP to Redefine Lively Arts, Discontinue OnStage

In order to better serve the arts programming needs of the Indiana community and the academic mission of the IUP community, IUP’s Lively Arts program will be redefined for the 2011-2012 season, and, at the end of the current season, the OnStage Arts and Entertainment series will be discontinued.

Highway Safety Project to Test How Cars Fit

The Highway Safety Project will present its first “CarFit” event on Saturday, December 4, 2010, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Colonial Toyota, Indiana. The program, especially designed for drivers age sixty-five and older, will evaluate how well motorists and their vehicles work together.
