Students Get Hands-On Experience with Weyandt Hall Green Roof

Students of Dr. Timothy Nuttle, a faculty member in the Biology Department, are creating a green roof—a roof covered in vegetation over a waterproof membrane—on top of Weyandt Hall.

Chemistry Students Help Local Business Develop Energy Calculator

The Department of Chemistry recently assisted Gorell Windows & Doors, Indiana, with the development of an online energy savings calculator to show consumers the impact in energy savings of the company’s windows and doors in homes throughout America.

Kovalchick Complex Hotel Project Expected to Move Forward Following Legislation Approval

The plan to construct an adjoining hotel for the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex is projected to move forward after legislation was signed November 23, 2010, allowing 3.35 acres owned by the Department of General Services to be transferred to IUP to serve as the hotel site.

Dr. Susan Boser, Department of Sociology, served as moderator for a public forum November 18, 2010, sponsored by the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County on the Marcellus shale drilling being conducted on authority properties.

The Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex will host longtime basketball-entertainment team the Harlem Globetrotters for its first major event on Thursday, March 10, 2011, at 7:00 p.m.

Nursing Students Achieve High Marks on Licensure Exam

IUP Nursing graduates have achieved, for the third year in a row, a more than 90 percent passing rate for first-time test takers on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX).

Shellenbarger Elected to Leadership Position for National Nursing Group

Dr. Teresa Shellenbarger, a professor and doctoral program coordinator in the Department of Nursing and Allied Health Professions, has been elected to the position of governor-at-large for the National League for Nursing.

Apollo 13’s Lovell Lectures on Turning “Almost Certain Catastrophe into a Successful Recovery”

Captain James Lovell, Jr., commander of the 1970 Apollo 13 space mission, spoke mainly about his experience aboard spacecraft during his lecture November 1, 2010, in Fisher Auditorium for the third annual First Commonwealth Endowed Lecture.
