IUP Announces New Approach to Developmental Math Experience

Beginning in fall 2014, the departments of Developmental Studies and Mathematics will implement adaptive computer software called Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces in all developmental math courses.

Colen Publishes on Mathematics Education in Korea

Yong Colen of the Mathematics Department coauthored two chapters in the book Mathematics Education in Korea: Curricular and Teaching and Learning Practices. This work gives important international and comparative perspectives and cultivates critical ideals to improve children’s mathematical thinking.

Mathematics Department to Cosponsor Maya Week at IUP

The Mathematics Department is a cosponsor of Maya Week at IUP, a weeklong series of events. In particular, the department will sponsor talks on Maya Geometry and on Maya Arithmetic.

Metz Receives Outstanding Contribution to Mathematics Education Award

Mary Lou Metz, associate professor of Mathematics, received the Outstanding Contribution to Mathematics Education Award from the Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of Mathematics on October 18, 2012.

Mathematics Faculty Colen and Navaratna Publish on Mathematics of Voting Systems

Yong Colen and Channa Navaratna, Mathematics Department, along with Jung Colen, a graduate of the M.Ed. in Elementary and Middle School Mathematics Education program, published “Power Indices and U.S. Presidential Elections” in the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics journal, Mathematics Teacher.
