In this first episode, released October 28, 2010, Werner addresses topics including the general outlook for the budget for the coming year, how IUP is working to meet budget challenges, how decisions involving the elimination of programs would be made, and the possibility of retrenchment or furloughs.

Budget Matters—a periodic, web video series in which David Werner, interim president, will address questions relating to the budget and budget planning—will debut Thursday, October 28, 2010, on the President’s office website and in IUP Daily.

President David Werner’s next open forum, in which he takes questions from faculty and staff members on issues of their choosing, will be Monday, November 1, 2010, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Crimson Event Center, Folger Hall.

In light of recent incidents on college campuses, PASSHE Chancellor John Cavanaugh has released a statement—fully endorsed by IUP President David Werner—about how harassment of any kind cannot be tolerated.

Applications are now being accepted for the student seat on the Council of Trustees. Application/nomination forms are available in the Office of the President and on the president’s website. Deadline to apply is November 17, 2010.

Council of Trustees meetings, instead of being two-day affairs on Thursday and Friday, will now take place on Thursday only, President Werner announced. The new dates are December 16, 2010; March 3, 2011; and May 5, 2011.

IUP is to receive $5,052,290 in performance funding from the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education for the 2010–2011 fiscal year, President Werner announced. In comparison, the university received $2,975,619 for 2009–2010.

Baria Miley, of Philadelphia, a sophomore in the College of Health and Human Services, died September 30, 2010, in an automobile accident.
