University Museum to Host Public Reception for Associated Artists of Pittsburgh Exhibit

The University Museum will host a public reception November 13, 2010, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. to highlight the exhibition “Beyond City Limits: Associated Artists of Pittsburgh at IUP.”

Reminder: Apollo 13 Commander Lovell to Lecture Monday

The third annual First Commonwealth Endowed Lecture at IUP, featuring Captain James Lovell, Jr., commander of the 1970 Apollo 13 space mission, will be Monday, November 1, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. in the IUP Performing Arts Center’s Fisher Auditorium.

Telehealth Equipment to Provide New Learning Opportunities for Nursing Students

The Department of Nursing and Allied Health Professions will use recently awarded grant funding to purchase equipment that simulates telehealth monitoring of a rural patient with a common chronic illness.

Council for Exceptional Children Chapter to Host 2010 Children’s Fair

The IUP student chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children will host its annual children’s fair from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. October 24, 2010, in the Susquehanna Room of the Hadley Union Building. The fair is free, and children are encouraged to come in costume.

Psychology Department to Host “Potluck” Conference for State System Schools

The Psychology Department faculty is organizing a “Psychology Potluck” conference on October 23, 2010, to showcase what has been deemed the best research by faculty members and students from Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education universities.

Master’s in Spanish Approved by PASSHE Board

The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education board of governors on October 14, 2010, approved a new Master of Arts degree in Spanish to be offered by IUP.

Eberly Makes 2011 “Best Business Schools” Guidebook

Eberly College of Business and Information Technology is included in the Princeton Review’s “Best 300 Business Schools,” 2011 edition. This is the seventh consecutive year that Eberly has been selected for this annual guidebook.

Reed, Robbins Receive Friend of Higher Education, Legislative Fellow Distinctions

IUP honored state Representative Dave Reed with its Friend of Higher Education Award and welcomed state Senator Robert “Bob” Robbins as its thirteenth legislative fellow at a luncheon October 7, 2010.

Summer 2010 Dean’s List

See the Summer 2010 Dean’s List. Undergraduate students receive recognition on the Dean’s List for each semester (or summer sessions cumulatively) in which they earn at least a 3.25 grade-point average.

Residential Revival Completion Celebrated; Building Named for Stephenson

The completion of the Residential Revival student housing project was marked with a ceremony October 8, 2010. Foundation board member Andrew W. Stephenson was honored with the naming of the Phase IV building in his honor.

Tickets for Lovell Lecture Available October 13

Free tickets are available starting Wednesday, October 13, for the First Commonwealth Endowed Lecture featuring Capt. James Lovell, Jr., commander of the 1970 Apollo 13 space mission. Lovell will present “Apollo 13: A Successful Failure” on November 1, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. in Fisher Auditorium.

Nestor Retrospective Exhibit to Celebrate Career, Upcoming Retirement

The collected works of sculpture professor James Nestor will be showcased in Kipp Gallery and Gallery C in Sprowls Hall from October 14 to November 19, 2010. The show celebrates Nestor’s career and honors his upcoming retirement.

English Doctoral Students Form Partnership with Local Libraries

IUP doctoral students are partnering with Homer-Center and Burrell Township libraries to offer a postcolonial studies community-library group called Community Connections. The group’s next meeting will be October 24, 2010, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Homer-Center Public Library.

Homecoming 2010 Activities Announced

The annual Homecoming celebration, October 7–10, 2010, is expected to draw thousands to Indiana for alumni reunions and events for the entire community, including the Pregame in the Oak Grove festival, the parade, and the football game.

SOAR Student Group Recognized for Alcohol-Prevention Efforts

Indiana County’s Collective Action Against Underage Drinking group honored IUP’s SOAR (Students Opting for Alternative Residence) group for its efforts in promoting messages about the dangers of underage drinking to the community.
