A Star on the Map: Regional Planning Undergraduate Program Earns National Accreditation

The Regional Planning undergraduate program has earned national accreditation from the Planning Accreditation Board, joining only 13 other undergraduate programs in the United States to be nationally accredited.

Beaver Run Water Quality Project Renewed for Second Year

The project will sample and monitor reservoir water quality near Marcellus shale well pad sites for a second year, thanks to renewal of a $77,000 contract with the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County in June. The project, led by Professor Brian Okey and Professor Nathan McElroy, taps the expertise of faculty and students from the Departments of Geography and Regional Planning, Geosciences, and Chemistry.

Bencloski and Student Receive Awards at Pennsylvania Geographical Society Meeting

Sara Fortnam, a Geography graduate student at IUP, received the best graduate student research award, and Joseph Bencloski, professor of Geography, received the PGS 2009 Distinguished Service Award at the annual meeting of the Pennsylvania Geographical Society in West Chester on October 23, 2009.
