New USGS Map Publication for Geoscience’s Joseph Clark

Dr. Joseph Clark, professor emeritus in the Geoscience Department, and U.S. Geological Survey colleagues recently had a new paper titled “Map of Rinconada and Reliz Fault Zones, Salinas River Valley, California” accepted by the USGS for publication as a Scientific Investigations Map.

Geoscience Professor Emeritus Joseph Clark Attends Conference in Switzerland

Dr. Joseph Clark, professor emeritus in the Geoscience Department, recently attended the International Conference and Fieldtrip on Landslides in Switzerland.  Joe is currently the secretary of this international landslide research group, and he reported that the trip was fabulous.

Department of Geosciences Seminar Series: Burying the Greenhouse Gas: Carbon Dioxide

The Geoscience Department present a seminar by Dr. Karen Cohen, U.S. Dept. of Energy. Her presentation will focus on the sequestration of the greenhouse gas—Carbon Dioxide.

Christa Ziegler ’01 receives Young Alumni Achievement Award

The Geoscience Department congratulates Christa Ziegler ’01 on receiving one of IUP’s 2008 Young Alumni Achievement Awards. Christa conducted research as an undergraduate with Dr. Steve Hovan. After completing her undergraduate work, she worked as a lab technician at the University of California–Santa Cruz and then received her Ph.D. from Boston University. Christa currently works as an Exploration Geologist for ExxonMobil in Houston, Texas.

Free Planetarium Show: Family Weekend

The IUP Planetarium

Dr. Ken Coles will present an informational, free planetarium show. Come “See Space in 3-D” at an updated version of one of our most popular planetarium shows. The show is free to the public, and as this is Family Weekend, you must meet at the Hadley Union Building at 9:30 or 11:00 a.m. to get tickets (free) rather than at the Planetarium.

Geoscience Department Celebrates 40th Anniversary

The Geoscience Department held a 40th Anniversary Reunion over IUP Homecoming Weekend (October 3 and 4). Over a hundred guests gathered for a weekend of reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones. Events included a museum reception (“The Lost World of Sea Creatures and Meat Eaters”), a reunion banquet, and a pre-game brunch.
