Glisan Elected President of American Council on Teaching of Foreign Languages

Dr. Eileen Glisan, professor of Spanish, has been elected president-elect of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages and will serve as council president beginning in 2010.

Classes to Begin at 10:10 a.m. Today (January 28)

Due to inclement weather, classes at IUP will begin at 10:10 a.m. today, Wednesday, January 28, 2009. Classes beginning earlier than 10:10 a.m will not be held.

Chinese New Year Celebration Features Dragon Dance, Peking Opera, More

A Chinese New Year celebration will be held January 25 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Allegheny Room of the Hadley Union Building. Activities include a dragon dance, Peking opera, learning about Chinese zodiac, calligraphy and name translations, and Chinese food and games.

Planetarium Program Focuses on Gamma-Ray and X-Ray Astronomy

Dr. Ken Coles, Geoscience professor, will present a free program in the IUP planetarium on January 28, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. titled “New Eyes: Gamma-Ray and X-Ray Astronomy.”

Squonk Opera Production Features Indiana County People, History

The Lively Arts will present Squonk Opera on January 30, 2009, at 8:00 p.m. in the IUP Performing Arts Center’s Fisher Auditorium. The performance features dozens of Indiana County residents and IUP students.

Great Decisions Program Begins with Discussion of U.S., Rising Powers

IUP’s Office of Distance Learning and Continuing Education is cosponsoring the Great Decisions Lecture Discussion Series, February 3 through March 31, 2009. Sessions will be at the Court at St. Andrew’s Village. Preregistration is required.

List of Provost Scholars for Fall 2009. Requirements are being a current junior with a minimum of 45 semester hours earned at IUP and a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.

Political Commentator Brazile to Speak at King Program

Donna Brazile, political commentator, professor, author and chair of the Democratic National Committee’s Voting Rights Institute, will present the keynote address for IUP's annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. commemorative program January 29, 2009.
