IUP Safety Sciences Faculty Selected for Outstanding Safety Educator Award

Tracey Cekada, Associate Professor, Department of Safety Sciences, was selected for the 2016 Dr. William E. Tarrants Outstanding Safety Educator Award, given annually by the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE). The national award “recognizes exceptional educators who show the highest level of achievement in teaching, scholarship, and professional service, as part of ASSE.”

First Cybersecurity Camp at IUP a Success

Thirty students and 15 teachers completed a week-long Cybersecurity Camp (GenCyber Camp) at IUP. The camp, part of a national initiative supported by the National Security Agency and the National Science Foundation, was directed by Waleed Farag, Department of Computer Science, and Dighton (Mac) Fiddner, Department of Political Science, and was funded by a grant of $50,000 from the National Security Agency.

IUP, Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County Enter Sixth Year of Water Testing Contract

Indiana University of Pennsylvania faculty members and students will move into year six of testing water from the Beaver Run Reservoir as a result of an $85,000 contract with the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County. With this most recent contract, IUP has received a total of $390,000 since 2011 to test and monitor the reservoir’s water quality.

IUP Offering Free Cybersecurity Camp for Students, Teachers

Indiana University of Pennsylvania is offering a free Cybersecurity Camp for middle and high school students and teachers from June 13 to June 17, 2016, on the IUP campus. The camp is part of a national initiative supported by the National Security Agency and the National Science Foundation.

IUP Trustee Honored by National Trial Lawyers Association

Indiana attorney Jonathan Mack, a member and vice chair of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Council of Trustees and audit committee chair and executive committee member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Board of Governors, has been selected as one of the top 100 trial lawyers in Pennsylvania by the National Trial Lawyers Association.

Downing Selected for IUP’s Distinguished University Professor Honor

A professor of English, Dr. David Downing is known for his work on important topical issues such as academic freedom, intellectual property, affirmative action, the privatization of public higher education, the history of criticism and theory, critical pedagogy, integrating the liberal arts and professional education, the academic labor movement, and the role of the humanities.

Groundbreaking Set for North Dining Facility

The North Dining Commons is scheduled for opening in fall 2017. It will be located adjacent to Wallwork Hall in the footprint of what is now Keith Hall. It will have 500 seats and an “all you care to eat” format. It also will house the main bakery and the central commissary for the campus dining program.
