IUP Women’s Rugby Team Advances to National Championship Final Four

 Permanent link

The IUP Women’s Rugby team has advanced to the Final Four and will play at the 2014 Women's Division II College National Championship, taking place at Stanford University. IUP will match up against Cal State Northridge in the semifinal game to be played on Saturday, May 10.

The other semifinal game is Appalachian State vs. Florida International. The winners of these two semifinal games will play in the national championship game on Sunday, May 11.

IUP’s Women’s Rugby team has been ranked first in the Allegheny Rugby Union and continues to succeed in the USA Rugby playoffs each year. Last year, the team advanced to the Elite 8. The team has worked very hard all year to accomplish the goal of making it to the Final four. This is a very rewarding experience for the team members to compete in the National Championship.

In order for the team to compete in the championship at Stanford University, the team must first come up with the funds to travel. The team has set a goal to raise $25,000 in order for the team to travel. The team is extremely appreciative of all of the support they are receiving to help them accomplish this goal.

The team has started a fundraising page. Any amount is greatly appreciated and will help the team accomplish their goal. If you wish to donate in a different way, please feel free to contact the club president, Jami Marsicano, by phone at 717-756-2203.

We thank you for your time, and look forward to the competition and leadership that this journey has given us.
