Massey Chosen to Exhibit in 25th Legnica International Jewellery Competition

Department of Art Assistant Professor Sharon Massey was the only American chosen to exhibit in the 25th Legnica International Jewellery Competition:CITY in Legnica, Poland.

Advanced Woodworking Class “Sutton Bench” Project to be Unveiled May 5

The Sutton Bench originated from an idea from Blane Dessy, a 1973 English graduate of IUP. Dessy, while not a fine arts graduate, became interested in the university’s “Harvest-to-Use” program in IUP’s Wood Center (using trees that come down on campus for student woodworking projects). He contacted Harrington to see if she could incorporate creating a bench reflecting the architecture of Sutton Hall—“Italianate style”—into one of her classes.

Kosker Featured in American Craft Magazine

Adjunct professor and IUP Department of Art alumnus Joshua Kosker has been published in American Craft magazine. The article, “Undercurrents of Intimacy,” which features his recent work, can be found in the February/March 2016 issue of the publication.

Art Studio Technician Soltez Creates Handmade Signage

Department of Art Studio Technician Steve Soltez has created and installed a handmade pretzel sign to hang outside of Six Hand Bakery. The “upside down” pretzel is a traditional baker’s symbol throughout parts of northern and eastern Europe.

IUP Alumnus Adam Frelin Awarded $1-Million Grant

IUP Art Department alumnus Adam Frelin has been awarded a $1-million grant to support his program "Breathing Lights," which will illuminate the street-facing windows of hundreds of vacant buildings in Schenectady, Albany, and Troy, N.Y.
