Visiting Lecturer to Speak on Mathematical Problems and Random Walks

Fern Hunt, a research mathematician at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, will present two talks at IUP on February 23, 2016. The talks are sponsored by the S-COAM Program and the Mathematics Department and are intended for students at all levels.

Pararai Publishes More on the Extended Lindley Poisson Distribution

Mavis Pararai of the Mathematics Department had the co-authored article “An Extended Lindley Poisson Distribution with Applications” published in Journal of Mathematics and Statistical Science, Volume 2015.

Bouchat Publishes “Multi-Graded Betti Numbers of Path Ideals of Trees”

A paper by Rachelle Bouchat, along with collaborator Tricia Muldoon Brown of Armstrong State University, titled “Multi-graded Betti numbers of path ideals of trees” was accepted for publication in the Journal of Algebra and Its Applications.

Mathematics Department and S-COAM to Hold Fourth Student Presentation Day

The Mathematics Department and the S-COAM program are sponsoring its fourth Student Presentation Day on December 1. This program will highlight any mathematics related scholarly work of undergraduate/graduate students.

Flowers Named to Editorial Board of WeBWorK Open Problem Library

Tim Flowers of the Mathematics Department has been named to the editorial board of the WeBWorK Open Problem Library (OPL). The 13-member board reviews submissions of new problems for inclusion in the OPL, and then edits, categorizes, and classifies the selected problems.
