Blackledge as Landers

Professor of Theater and former chair of the department Barb Blackledge is “the lady with all the answers” at the Electric Theater Company (ETC) in Scranton, where she is a guest member of the resident company. Blackledge accepted a challenge from ETC artistic director David Zarko to perform in a one-woman show. Reading through available plays, she discovered The Lady With All the Answers, a monodrama featuring Eppie Friedman, also known as advice columnist Ann Landers.

Blackledge told the Abington Journal, “Her life was just amazing. She had quite a life of adventures, and she brings all of that to the play.” The play has gotten great reviews and played to large audiences. The Department of Theater and Dance will produce encore performances for the IUP campus over summer 2010 as an offering of Keystone Repertory, and again in the fall as a special production of Theater-by-the-Grove.

Blackledge also directed Mark Twain’s The Diary of Adam and Eve for the Electric Theater Company as part of her sabbatical. She returns to IUP this fall to direct Beth Henley’s comedy Crimes of the Heart as the season opener for Theater-by-the-Grove.
